All the Right Reasons

Ten plus years and countless weddings later I will always remember that I was once a photographer who dreaded taking photos of .. dum dum dimmmmm.. People! Yikes! No other photography subject is more aware that they are being documented in the world except for possibly Sasquatch. It's so funny but no when I look at my body of wedding work I realize that I am heavy on the people shots compared to all of the little details. Over the course of this work I have come to love shooting people and the art of capturing candid shots of the company we keep. It's so easy to get lost in the details and the pinterest and the little doodads. But I shoot weddings for the love of photographing couples amongst their legacy of supporters and smile makers.

I couldn't be more excited to share Jeff and Holly's intimate backyard wedding from this year in my home town Berkeley, CA! The couple is a true celebration of getting hitched for all the right reasons. I mean Jeff told me this whole wedding talk started not because of their years of being together but because they wanted to go on a honeymoon finally! One theme stood out- every last detail of the wedding was not about them- it was about giving:

Flowers by: 4th Street flowers
Makeup by Holly's loving niece Laura

The giving of their time to their kids- Jeff and Holly talked through the ceremony with Robert their officiant and brother, they all agreed the kids were central. That our marriage wasn't just about Jeff and Holly, but about their family. It had always been important for Holly to have Ethan walk her down the aisle, but they wanted to loop them both into the ceremony too. The kids were gifted G-shock watches, because they will last quite a while, be used, and always remind them of their part in the ceremony.

All of the kids from the neighborhood ran around the block like crazy people. It was awesome. :)

The couple said bye bye to their own their gifts and instead gave a donation to Open Space Council because so much of the reason they love living in the Bay Area are the awesome outdoor spaces we have here.

And let's just say that the giving of a huge family style meal to their friends by the gals at Ă‘ora Spanish Cuisine was to die for. Two giant pans of paella was served and aside from being gorgeous it was delicious.

Congratulations guys- you are the reason why I love this gig!
